Let me establish that I'm not looking for a quick way to get into trading, but rather I am looking to start getting informed so that I can learn how to trade and be educated about it before I even think about starting to do so.

I'm just looking for any advice as far as how I should start to break into the world of investing and if there are any resources anybody can recommend. Again I'm looking to learn, not just jump in and think I can do it immediately.

Thanks in advance.

start by reading.......... there are many books on investing, most are good......

then open an account with an amount of money, that you are willing to lose........

understand trading and investing are 2 very different things........

commodities and stocks are 2 very different things.......

which do you want to trade................... and are you looking to trade or to invest?

As of right now I feel that I'd like to trade stocks, but of course as I learn more about it all I may find something that appeals to me more. Naturally I'll be looking to invest as well in the near future, so I'm not counting that out at all either.

i can personally recommend opening an account at TD Ameritrade........ just go to their website and they can walk you thru it.......... all can be done online........... up and trading really fast......

just remember the $9.99 price is really over $20............ its 9.99 in and then 9.99 out....... as well as a few small fees associated with it.....

Great, thank you. Not going to do this right now, but once I feel comfortable that I know what I'm doing I'll definitely get started at TD. Thanks a lot again, and if you have any other advice (ie any good books that you know of personally) I'll always be open to it. Also, any thoughts on a good amount of money I should start with? (I know that I should be willing to lose that much, but just thinking of an amount that would allow me to start working well with)

I think you need to look at the events around you....if you plan on trading (buying) stocks-better do it quick. This economy is built upon debt that will not ever be paid back to anyone. Our Fed (which is privately owned) only manipulates money through interest rates and issuing credit. The war in Iraq is about maintaining our world dominance economically and militarily. But most of Europe and Russia will do what it takes to destroy our economy as our military advantages appear to unconquerable at this time. In place of the dollar, the Euro is on its way to becoming the world currency.
Empires rise and fall like clockwork, and the fall of our "fiat" based economy will be the ultimate demise.

Interesting stuff. Would anyone recommend using MSN's money site as a good reference tool?
